Free Cancer Screening for Uninsured of N.Y. State

The following information is provided by the Cancer Services Program of Albany and Rensselaer Counties.

The Cancer Services Program is a grant-funded program through the New York State Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control. St. Peter’s Hospital holds the grant. The Partnership offers free breast, cervical, and colon cancer screenings to the uninsured.

Women 40 and older:
Clinical Breast Exam
Pap/Pelvic Exam
Mammogram

Men and Women 50 and older:
Colorectal cancer screening
Average Risk Patients will receive an easy FIT kit to do at home
If patient has a personal or family history of colon cancer or is
at increased risk for colon cancer, they will be scheduled for a colonoscopy.

If screening tests find something abnormal, diagnostic services are available through the CSP for eligible men and women at no cost.

If breast, cervical, or colon cancer is found, eligible men and women may be able to enroll in the NYS Medicaid Cancer Treatment program to receive full Medicaid coverage for the entire time they are being treated for cancer.

Men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer by a doctor in this program may be able to enroll in the Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program. The CSP does not pay for prostate cancer screening or diagnostic tests.

If patients have barriers to receiving care, the Partnership also offers supportive case management services.

  1. My sister died one year ago tomorrow because she did not have insurance. If she was treated earlier maybe she would have had a better chance. She was taken very good care of at LIJ it was a little too late.I want to somehow give back I work in the medical field and want to make a difference in someone elses life.

  2. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. It is important for the state to continue funding free cancer screening throughout the State of New York.
